Hornington Manor is set within the grounds of a working farm. Owned by Harrison Spinks, a Leeds-based bed maker, the farm provides materials which are used as natural fillings in their mattresses.
The farm boasts 300 acres of beautiful Yorkshire pasture and arable land, and is home to a flock of Texel, Suffolk, Zwartble and Wensleydale sheep, which our farmers rear in exchange for their woolly fleeces. The newest addition to the farm is a couple of Angora goats who provide luxurious mohair. We also produce hemp and flax fibres which are processed on-site, before being transported to Harrison Spinks’ factory in Leeds. Here, they are carded and blended with other natural materials to make sumptuous natural mattress upholstery fillings.
The fact that these materials are able to be produced and processed less than 20 miles from the company’s factory, reinforces the commitment we have to the environment. We try to be as sustainable as possible in our processes, one example being our alternative uses for hemp. Not only are the fibres used as luxury mattress fillings, but we have also used the by-products for heating the Manor via our biomass boiler, as animal bedding and even for building projects, such as our very own Hornington Gallery.
You can sleep soundly knowing that every bed at Hornington Manor, started life in the fields just outside your bedroom window.
