Debbie and James- ‘Oh no, it’s going to rain!’

When Debbie arrived at Hornington Manor on Friday, she was so upset that the forecast had changed for their big day and it was unfortunately going to rain for most of it.

Apart from not being able to do a blooming thing about the weather, we reassured her as much as we could that it was still going to be a spectacular weekend. Our bar man Simon gave her a little hug and said “So! We are going to have an ace time anyway.”

Her family and friends kept her busy by organising the wedding barn using decorative bunting and flowers and her nerves slowly but surely eased away.

Debbie got to spend plenty of time cuddling her little niece, and the rest of the kids had a fabulous time using the Manor and its lawns as their playground for the weekend.

The big day arrived and so did all the expected rain. The church, St Johns at Acaster Selby, and its guests, eagerly awaited the arrival of their future bride and groom. Debbie looked stunning in her beautiful dress from The Bridal Boutique. Despite the pouring rain, nothing seemed to dampen anyone’s spirits.

The caterers arrived from Hog and Apple whilst everyone was at the ceremony to prepare a marvellous banquet of roast pork on their return.

Debbie and James had hired a camper van for the week, for their bridal carriage and to take them on their honeymoon. They drove back blissfully happy from the Church and I dare say a little relieved that they could settle down to enjoy the celebrations as a newly married couple.

Only a minor incident occurred whereby after everyone had eaten and were awaiting the “puds”, the caterers table had collapsed with an almighty crash and down went the beautiful deserts that were to be served.

Simon managed to calm the situation by shouting, “don’t panic Mr Mannering” to a crowd of laughs, and ran off to see what he could do to help.

Hog and Apple dealt with the situation wonderfully, and whilst the speeches were brought forward, new deserts were brought in and served.

I honestly think that situations like that can bring such memories and laughter for years to come when recalling the day.

The room literally rocked all night with Night Owls Disco. Everyone had such a good time but no-one more so than the DJ. The phrase “dance like nobody is watching” springs to mind as he had the time of his life and obviously someone who clearly loves his job.

The big day was over and it was time for Debbie and James to drive off in their camper van for a wonderful week in the lakes. With a promise that the weather was going to be tropical for the duration of their honeymoon, it looked like Saturdays rain was a small price to pay “I would say”.
