I have known Karen and Jamie and both their families for 18 months now, taking them through the journey of what was going to be one of the happiest day of their lives. Both of their families were equally involved in the lead up to the special date booked in for September. The unity of the families shone through every time I got the pleasure to meet up with them. It was evident both families wanted to create a very special day for everyone to celebrate.

Karen’s parents have both battled through serious illnesses since booking Hornington Manor, and had one main aim to get better and fitter for the wedding. The determination for their daughter to have the wedding of her dreams must have aided their full recovery. No doubt her Dad withholding the important duty of walking Karen down the aisle, must have helped – being such a special moment for any father and daughter.

After many visits to Hornington with their families and suppliers, Karen and Jamie had created a vision in their heads of what their big day and weekend would be like – I couldn’t wait to see their vision unfold for the wedding weekend.

The whole team gets involved with the dressing of the barn and soon Karen and Jamie’s wonderful ideas come to life. Karen’s mum was busy finishing the table runners by hand and she had done all 13 round tables apart from the top table. So I quickly jumped on my sewing machine to save her having to do the last one and told her to go and sit in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine!

Karen’s mum got a little shock when she walked into the barn. One of the guys from Innserve (who she works for) and who were cleaning the pumps behind the bar, had her on saying that we had major problems with our beer supply and that everyone would have to have cans of pop on the day of the wedding! She gave him a clip around the ear for nearly giving her a heart attack.

Jamie arrived at Hornington with his pal and the all-important mini golf equipment, which he had sourced for the fun day and BBQ planned for later in the weekend. You could tell he couldn’t wait to share the fun day with his new wife and all their accompanying friends and family.

The day of the wedding arrived and the big red bus turned up on time to take everyone off to the church. Amidst the hub of excitement, Karen and her Dad left for the church with the photographers (info) and videographer(info) in tow. Karen looked ecstatic, beautiful and so eager to meet Jamie, her soon-to-be husband.

The church was a wonderful, personal occasion, and one which was spoken about even on the first initial viewing at Hornington. Karen had told of how she wanted her old school headmaster who was now a minister to marry her and Jamie at their local church. The workings of getting ready at Hornington and then going to Riccall Church, was a big consideration, but one that would be sorted because of the importance of Karen’s wishes on her big day.

Everything worked out wonderfully and as the wedding was a Friday, even the local school where Karen had attended came and sang for everyone in church. I expect there wasn’t a dry eye in sight.

Fun and entertainment was the order of the day when they returned from the church, and a there was very much a relaxed and happy atmosphere at the Manor.

A delicious food spread presented on sharing platters was served to the guests by The Kitchen, with each buffet plate bespoke to Jamie and Karen’s requirements.

The Brazillian Samba dancers where a fabulous spectacle and were a great surprise for the wedding guests, with looks of amazement on everyone’s faces as they performed in the courtyard in front of the Lych Gate. It was definitely a performance the manor hadn’t witnessed before – but what a brilliant one.

DJ David Green kept the party going with great music all night, everyone knew a guaranteed fun filled night was ahead.  Even Jamie’s Grandad spun around the dance floor in his wheelchair!

Jamie and Karen are clearly made for each other with their sense of fun and good strong family values, which was most evident in their wedding day here at Hornington Manor. We wish you all the happiness as you continue your married life.
